Open Folklore Project Planning Documents and Policies

Over time this page will serve as a gathering place for planning documents and policy formulations directing the ongoing work of the Open Folklore project.

Open Folklore Project Policy on Hybrid Open Access
A hybrid open access journal (a.k.a. OA by the article, optional OA, paid option for OA) in folklore studies will be eligible for partnership with the Open Folklore project if, through a combination of methods including author uptake on author-pays gold open access, 40% or more of its retrospective and current content becomes available to users in open access ways. Such partnerships would include being listed with a link on the OF Journal's page and, if technically feasible, the harvesting of the associated metadata for the open access content in OF Search. The OF project supports diverse strategies for the achievement of open access goals, including hybrid OA. This policy is adopted so as to meet the needs of OF portal users who turn to the site as a means of discovering and accessing open access folklore scholarship. The goal is to avoid confusion among such users should they, in their use of the OF portal, encounter a hybrid journal with a low uptake rate and therefore little or no actual open access folklore scholarship.
